Following his departure, Pralhad Joshi took charge as India's new Union Minister of Education to lead incoming academic reforms.
His resignation came around the same time protests had observed rampant activity. At Jantar Mantar, a youth-led group called "Cockroach Janta Party" came into being since early June. Subsequently, student federations also joined hands. The protests escalated when activist Sonam Wangchuk commenced an indefinite hunger strike at the protest venue starting on June 28.
